Slovura 11 - Gender
Slovura does not require gender to be specified.
When gender is relevant, it can be added directly to a word using one of three endings:
-na— feminine-no— masculine-n— gender-neutral
These are whole-word modifiers.
Gender Is Optional
A word without a gender ending does not imply any particular gender.
For example:
le
third-person pronoun without specified gender
Gender can be added when you want to express it:
lena
she
leno
he
len
le + n
gender-neutral third-person pronoun
The unmarked le and gender-neutral len are different: le leaves gender unspecified, while len explicitly expresses a gender-neutral form.
Gender in Compound Words
Gender can be added after an already constructed concept:
person + same + parent
sibling
kasapana →
(kasapa) na→ sisterkasapano →
(kasapa) no→ brother
The base kasapa remains sibling without specifying gender.
Masculine and Feminine Are Broad
na and no are broader than biological sex. They express feminine and masculine forms or interpretations and can be used wherever that distinction is meaningful.
Remember
- Gender is optional.
-nais feminine,-nomasculine, and-ngender-neutral.- An unmarked word leaves gender unspecified.
le,lena, leno, andlentherefore express different gender information.- Gender endings apply to the complete word before them.
